Iron Horse Bridge

Walnut Creek, California

Project completed for

Mountain States Steel, 2009

The 857-foot-long Iron Horse Pedestrian Bridge included a 240-foot main span with crossed cables, steel pipes, and arched ribs that form a basket- handle shape with outward-inclining arch ribs. The bridge is on a horizontal curve such that each arch rib has a different slope. This beautiful bridge won over one hundred different awards for its designers. In addition to our 2009 Tekla Model Award, we won an American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC) National Merit Award.
