This project was a three-story addition to the main hospital as well as a twelve-story elevator tower. The main building had seismic connections: at the columns, a unique connection was used called a “side plate.” This type of connection uses a series of plates that are welded to the beams to make up a connection that helps in the event of an earthquake.
