California State University Northridge,
Student Recreation Center

Northern Los Angeles, California

Project completed for

Mountain States Steel, 2010

Detailed steel included lots of handrails, guardrails, stairs, stadium seating for the new gym, and a running track. The east and west sides of the building were built using 12″ diameter round hollow steel members that were sloped from the ground going out away from the building and then up. From a cross section, it looked like an inverted trapezoid. This had lots of seismic connections that made the project complicated.
